FeLV/FIV Testing Policy PDF  | Print |

The Solano Feral Cat Group/ TNR Task Force does not provide routine screening tests for FeLV/ FIV at our clinics for the following reasons:

  1. The prevalence of these viruses is low.
  2. The tests are expensive.
  3. The fate of a cat should not hinge on one positive test.

We may perform FeLV/FIV tests on a case by case basis as determined by the veterinary team. These tests can be one facet used to determine whether a sick animal may be suffering and should not be released.
